I've noticed that people are comfortable with the aspects of God like joy, peace and love — but often they don't seem at ease with one of God's other aspects — power. It appears that power has a bad reputation among good people. No doubt that is because we so often see it misused. But without accessing power, real change won't happen. Ghandi was a very gentle soul. But he had enormous power and he used it. Swami Kriyananda explained that power is the ability to command our own energies - above all for our own transcendence, but also for the good of others We speak often of using our will power. That's a subset of power. Will without power won't get you far. I've been thinking we should not be afraid of developing this aspect of God in ourselves. God is, after all, all-powerful. As we devote ourselves to moving closer to Him we should, and we will, develop power. As we align ourselves with God, His power flows through us. What could be better? Inspiration from Kriyananda Look at, or imagine, a river, flowing constantly. Then visualize your thoughts flowing with similar steadfastness - not hopping about restlessly like frogs; nor drifting sluggishly, as if burdened with sludge; nor frozezn motionless, like sheets of ice, with little floes of fixed ideas and opinions. Adapt yourself to circumstances. The more centered you are within, the easier you'll find it to change as the need arises. Affirm silently: "I adapt like flowing water to every new situation and idea." Inspiration from Yogananda No matter how far away God seems from you, live always in the thought that you belong with Him. And no matter how real your material life appears, and how real your attachment to it seems, hold it at a distance by reminding yourself of its impermanance. A blade of grass looks tiny when you hold it at arm's length, but when you bring itup close to your eye it appeas large. Even so, the experiences ofthis life seem important you only because you hold them so close to you. You allow them completely to possess your thoughts and feelings. Distance yourself from them mentally, even a little bit, and you will quickly realize their significance relative to the vast truth that beckons to you from Infinity. from The Essence of Self-Realization Meditation Teacher Training Level 2 Meditation Solutions In this 7-day training you will explore how to use meditation for finding solutions to daily life problems.
