It's not easy to get past that immediate response we have to happenings around us: “What's gonna happen to me!?” It's pretty hard-wired in most of us to wonder what the impact on us individually will be of whatever is going on. Our egos are strong and tenacious. The exercise of trying to stop our self-centered reactions can support our spiritual growth tremendously. A dispassionate look at what goes on makes events large and small easier to accept. If instead of “Is this going to hurt me?” we can think “How can I grow from this,” or “How can I help someone else impacted by this,” we'll feel much more calm and at peace ourselves - and be able to love others more. In a recent letter, Swami Kriyananda wrote: “If my body suffers, I don't suffer at all, because I know I am not my body. If others disagree with me, I feel no need to convince them otherwise. I give everyone the freedom simply to be himself. Desires have simply evaporated. They are meaningless to me.” Imagine not being hurt by pain, anger or desire. If we start by not wishing things were different, and not trying to change everything - the chances of our growing increases greatly. My New Year resolution is to react less - and respond more. May your New Year be filled with joyful challenges and tremendous spiritual growth. Timothy Join us this Christmas & New Year season. Experience deep joy, and peace. Inspiration The Wisdom of Paramhansa Yogananda, Volume 6 ‘Human life can be likened to a house fitted with the three windows of body, mind, and soul. Through these openings come pouring the three different rays responsible for man‘s physical health, mental equanimity, and soul-enlightenment. Man has the independence and free will to live in the house of life with its three windows open or closed. When man closes the windows of life, he shuts out the three divine rays and finds himself living in the darkness of physical disease, mental disquietude, or abysmal soul-ignorance. Most people have had one or more of their windows of life jammed shut for years. As a result, they suffer from chronic maladies. Their remedy lies in discovering how to open those windows themselves and bask once more in the all-healing rays of the Divine.’
