Dear Friend,
I think you’ll find the following letter as interesting as I did. Thank you, Mark, for sharing it.
"I have a family history of high blood pressure, which I have controlled for many years by diet and daily meditation. But for the past month (before coming to Ananda) my blood pressure had been rising slowly every day from approximately 110/70 to approximately 160/100. I had no explanation for this. I’m 95% vegetarian, exercise regularly, meditate twice a day (Kriya Yoga), and have little stress. I’ve asked God “Why” many times over that period, because I could see no change in habits.
Our meditation class at Ananda began with a talk about the superconscious, conscious, and subconscious, and how they are experienced in meditation. I asked about lying down to meditate. The instructor, Anandi, suggested that when we lie down to meditate, the mind tends to drift and to be more subconscious.
I immediately realized that for the past month, out of laziness, I have been lying down to meditate. And I quickly understood that this class came as the answer to my prayer. That night and the following morning I meditated upright, and for the first time in several weeks, my blood pressure registered 128/84. Thank you, God!
After I returned to Los Angeles, my blood pressure continued at a perfect normal of 118/80, despite the fact that there were a few stressful things to handle on my return. My meditations have continued to be more superconscious than subconscious, and I have resolved some emotions, and have cleared the space around me.
I feel I was led to Ananda to get a "tune up" on my spiritual path".

While visiting The Expanding Light may help bring down your blood pressure, too, the remarkable thing is how effective the teachings of Yogananda are for every aspect of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Kirtan Weekend
at Gaia House
2-day weekend
Jan 14 - 16
Join with others who love to sing, and dive deeply into enriching the devotional aspect of your life. Kirtan—devotional chanting—is a way to open the heart, and deepen one’s love for God through singing to Him. Yogananda used to say, “Chanting is half the battle.” In other words, chanting helps us develop the love for God necessary to find Him.
Your weekend will be hosted by Panduranga and Gitabai Heater at The Expanding Light’s new Gaia House. Gaia House—spacious, uplifting, and at the same time warm and inviting—lends itself to creating a relaxed and familial atmosphere.

Inspiration from Yogananda
“Graphs of my delicate apparatus have proved that trees possess a circulatory system; their sap movements correspond to the blood pressure of animal bodies. The ascent of sap is not explicable on the mechanical grounds ordinarily advanced, such as capillary attraction. The phenomenon has been solved through the crescograph as the activity of living cells. Peristaltic waves issue from a cylindrical tube which extends down a tree and serves as an actual heart!
The more deeply we perceive, the more striking becomes the evidence that a uniform plan links every form in manifold nature.”

The Yugas
Keys to Understanding Our Hidden Past, Emerging Energy Age,
and Enlightened Future
by Joseph Selbie & David Steinmetz
This is a brand-new, fascinating book about the Cycles of Time. It explores and expands on the Yugas as explained by Sri Yuteshwar in his book in the late 1800’s. In The Yugas, Joseph (Puru) and David (Byasa) present substantial and intriguing evidence from the findings of historians and scientists demonstrating the truth of Yukteswar and Yogananda’s revelations.
These concepts provide a context that makes what is going on in our world and our individual lives simply easier to understand. This is a fascinating, entertaining and informative read.
