Whether you have tried to meditate and felt that you couldn’t make it work for you, or you have never really given it a good try – we will help you!

Here, you will learn a marvelously effective breathing technique to help you concentrate the mind. Your meditation class instructor will help you learn to sit comfortably so that your body doesn’t distract you. You’ll discover how best to establish a daily practice of meditation and to experience its benefits in all aspects of your life.

You will leave feeling confident that you have the attitude and techniques you need to sustain a meditative practice.

You will learn to meditate in person from someone who is actively using the techniques they’re sharing, and who has experience teaching others.

You’ll have access to a number of resources, including physical exercises to aid relaxation, and written lessons to help you get the best possible start on your meditation practice.

Most of all, by taking a class during a weekend’s retreat, you’ll be able to devote your full attention to the experience, and will draw the greatest possible benefits. At The Expanding Light Retreat you’ll feel the blessings of 40 years of people devotedly practicing meditation here. All aspects of the environment – from the warm and relaxed atmosphere to the daily practice of meditation after yoga postures, the humor and joy of the teaching staff, and the wonderful fellow students – all aid your ability to relax and experience inner peace.

This course is taught by a rotating team of Ananda Village residents. All of our instructors are deeply knowledgeable about meditation techniques, based on personal experience and study.



Prices are all-inclusive and cover accommodations, meals, classes or activities, and course materials.

Learn to Meditate: A Weekend Meditation Retreat in Northern California starts the afternoon of the first date listed. It’s ideal to arrive before 4 pm, if you are able to. That way, you can join in the afternoon session of yoga and meditation, which begins at 4:45 pm. Dinner is at 6:30. The first real gathering of your group is at 7:30 pm. If you need to arrive here after 5 pm, that’s fine, but it helps us if you let us know at 800-346-5350. We can also put aside a dinner for you if you need to arrive after 7 pm.
