Keywords: Meniere’s Syndrome

ORIGINAL QUESTION:

From Genevieve Ryder, 1999 graduate of AYTT

Dear Friends,

Could you help with a question that had been sent to me about how to help someone with Meniere's syndrome (dizziness, deafness in affected ear, possibly accompanied by nausea and vomiting and a tendency to fall toward affected ear. The person may be affected by this intermittently. This person wishes to do asanas but cannot find how to do them without triggering dizziness. Even savasana can be a challenge. My reference texts say it could be due to inner ear infection or possibly allergies. Has anyone dealt with this?

ANSWERS:

From Jennifer Nelson, DC 2000 AYTT Graduate

I have not dealt with Meniere's disease specifically but there are some really great products for infectious diseases on the market- especially viral. I would take something that is anti viral as well as something to stimulate the immune system.  A good anti viral is Elderberry extract and also a product called ProBio- which is a thymic protein distributed by a company called N.E.E.D.S. There number is 800-634-1380. They are little packets of thymic protein that you put under the tongue. They are tasteless. I have known cases where herpes was eradicated for good by using one packet a day. Also, I have just recently heard of an immune stimulant product called Immune 26 distributed by a company called Legacy. They have a web site I am told--either biochoices.com or legacy .com. I have not looked at their web sites yet- but they are out of Melbourne Florida. A dear friend who is an MD uses it with great results for patients with chronic infections.

Hope this helps

From Allyson Cannata, 1997 AYTT graduate

Dear Genevieve, I am a physical therapist, and though I personally have not learned the specific techniques, there are other physical therapists trained to treat some variations of Meniere's syndrome.  For those patients who fit a certain profile (to be determined by the physical therapist), the treatment can be not only quick, but completely successful in ending all symptoms.

If this person has not already been evaluated by a physical therapist trained in this area, I would offer that as a suggestion.

Also, I know some foods can trigger the symptoms including chocolate, coffee, and caffeine in general.

Best of luck to both of you.
