Guest Guidelines
In order to maintain our uplifting and peaceful atmosphere and ensure a serene and enjoyable experience for all, we have a few guidelines at The Expanding Light which we ask our guests to please observe:
- No recreational drugs or alcohol during your stay.
- Smoking is permitted ONLY outdoors and ONLY on the paved parking lots both out of consideration for our guests and to reduce fire hazard.
- No pets on the grounds.
- Quiet hours are from 9:00 pm to 9:00 am.
- Music may be enjoyed with the use of headphones (no musical instruments).
- Guests who snore need to reserve a private room unless they are coming with a roommate who doesn't mind. Unfortunately, guests who reserve a shared room and have to be relocated because of snoring will have to pay for a private room.
Dress Guidelines
- Dress for comfort; you might like to wear something nicer for Sunday service. The weather is usually pleasant, although it can be cold, snowy and rainy in winter, hot in summer. It helps to dress in layers. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (e.g., sweats) is best for yoga postures and meditation. Summer evenings can be cool, so bring a jacket or sweater. From October through May, bring rain gear and/or an umbrella.
- Bring sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. We remove our shoes upon entering most buildings here, so it’s convenient to bring shoes that are easy to take off and put on (e.g., Birkenstock-style or clogs). Sandals are ideal in the summer; in the winter, bring waterproof shoes for outdoors and warm slippers for indoors.
- Modest dress is required at all times. This includes: no revealing clothing; medium-length (or longer) shorts; cover-ups if you wear leotards/leggings (except inside yoga classes). Men must wear shirts at all times. Swimsuits require cover-ups when you’re anywhere on the grounds.
