Ananda Vacation in Hawaii
Big Island Retreat:
There are no dates currently scheduled.
Enjoy a relaxing, rejuvenating spiritual vacation in paradise, as part of a small family of like-minded souls.
Our first offering of this retreat (in 2012) was a huge success, and this second time will be even better. You can choose to stay in either of two gorgeous beachfront homes – right across the street from each other – on the famed Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, near Captain Cook.
This is a quiet residential and open-space area, not a crowded, noisy tourist spot. You’ll enjoy the black pebble beach (no sand in your shoes, swimsuit, or bed!), kayaking, and some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii. (The scenic photo above was taken from the lanai of one of the homes.)
And that’s just the beginning.
Your Vacation Includes …
- 3 vegetarian meals each day (recipes by Diksha)
- Ananda Yoga practice each morning
- Hiking to Crater Rim
- Plenty of free time
- Outdoor hot tub
- Peaceful balmy evenings
- An evening of chanting
- An evening of storytelling
- Just sitting on the black pebble beach and enjoying the soothing ocean breeze
Snorkel equipment and kayaks will be available to borrow. Yes, it’s easy and relaxing, even for newcomers to these activities.
An Unexpected Highlight
The strong feeling of “spiritual family” among the 2012 participants was a delightful surprise for many. The spiritual practices and other activities quickly bonded the group, and everyone enjoyed pitching in to help with some simple chores. As many participants remarked, it was a warm, joyful family experience – without “family stuff.”
We’ll offer that again in 2013: Everyone will share some easy duties that will make for fun and spiritual camaraderie. It’s a relaxed, harmonious experience of cooperative living.
During your stay, you can take advantage of some of the Big Island’s many famous tourist attractions: botanical gardens, coffee plantations, Volcano National Park, exotic waterfalls, macadamia nut orchards, and much more. If you plan to do that, you’ll want to rent a car, because our only scheduled group outing – in which transportation will be provided – will be an afternoon in Kailua-Kona town, with its excellent shopping opportunities. (In our first offering of this retreat, some of the participants loved our location so much that they didn’t want to go anywhere else.)
Your Hawaiian Home(s)
You can choose to stay in either of two modern dream houses – just across the street from each other, and right on the beach. Each offers a spacious, comfortable common area, indoor and outdoor dining, and a gorgeous, wide-angle ocean view. Wifi, too. Visit the Photo Gallery for additional photos.
Most participants will share a bedroom with one other person. If you want to maximize your housing options, consider coming with a friend or partner with whom you can share a queen or king bed. A limited number of private rooms are also available.
Main house: (photos above) We used this house for our 2012 retreat, and it was great. It has 5 bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms; 2 bedrooms have private bathrooms. All beds are twins or queens. The house has a full kitchen and several comfortable common areas, including a huge living room. The outdoor shower is a popular feature; it’s ideal after a refreshing swim. You can also relax anytime with a good soak in the hot tub. The house borders on a vacant 70-acre ranch, giving you a very private backyard.
Deluxe house: (photos above) As soon as you walk into this airy, upscale house, you get an expansive “Ahhhhh…” feeling. It offers larger guest rooms than the main house, and it has the most spacious and beautiful lanai we’ve seen: it runs the entire length of the front of the house. There are 3 bedrooms with king-sized beds; one bedroom has a private bath, and the other 2 share a bath. Our entire group (from both houses) will enjoy meals and yoga practices on this house’s spacious, carpeted lanai. And yes, everyone in the deluxe house will be able to use the hot tub in the main house.
In March, our area usually has sunny mornings, with some clouds rolling in around noon, then clearing again as the afternoon progresses. Temperatures tend to be in the 70’s, occasionally the 80’s, with a refreshing ocean breeze. All in all, it’s just what you’d want
