I have been practicing giving everything back to God. At my desk at The Expanding Light, I have a picture of Yogananda above my head. Throughout the day, as issues come up, I frequently raise my hand to Yogananda’s heart above me and ask him to “Please take this one.” Or perhaps “I have no idea what to do about this, please guide me.” As my Guru, Yogananda is my channel to God. Perhaps you have a Guru, perhaps not. But Divine Mother (or however you envision Universal Consciousness,) is there for all of us. And I thank God for that! And I am forever grateful for being taught this practice.
There is an extraordinary liberation in giving everything (or even some things) to God. It doesn’t make one care less, or work less. It does help enormously in separating ourselves from the results of our actions. It helps us move away from the idea that we are responsible. That is different from acting responsibly, which we all work at being. I find it very helpful in dealing with the tendency in many (perhaps especially Americans) to try to “fix” everything.
In a talk Nayaswami Ananta gave at a Sunday Service on August 22nd, 2010, he discusses this. And he relays examples from the life of Swami Kriyananda. As he repeats from the song: “God who is infinite is Life. God who is in all life is Joy.” It makes one joyful to offer our life to God.
You may find this practice as wonderfully helpful as I have. Enjoy the endless stream of little miracles that come into you life as a result.
Blessings and Joy,
Timothy

2-day weekend

“It is rare in life when one can spend time and money and receive so much more in return. The ‘gift’ of this course, the persistent, all encompassing guiding care is a treasure, to be enjoyed while here and repeated in memory and practice when you return home.”
J. Gere, California
Inspiration from Yogananda
“Man must do his best of course. His best, however, will be crowned with success to the extent that he realizes that it isn't he, as a human being, who is acting, but God who is acting through him, inspiring and guiding him”.
“To think of God as the Doer doesn't make a person passive. It takes a great effort of will to be receptive to Him. The devotee must offer himself positively and joyfully in to the flow of inner grace.”
“The power that is in you is your own, but God-given. Use it; God won't use it for you. The more you attune your will, during activity, to His infinite will, the more you will find His power and blessing strengthening and guiding you in everything you do.”
“Pray this way to God:‘Lord, I will reason, I will will, I will act, but guide Thou my reason, will, and activity to the right course in everything.”
