New for 2010 –

CRYSTAL CENTURY CHALLENGE BIKE-A-THON
Saturday August 7, 2010

Join us as we ride through the Sierra Nevada foothills to celebrate the joyous occasion of Spiritual Renewal Week and help raise funds for the Crystal Hermitage.

For 2010, we are putting a little ‘twist’ in the annual SRW ride, and making it a “Bike-a-thon”. Ananda has a long history of “Joy-a-thons” – various events where people pledge donations based on performance of activities. For the SRW/Crystal Century Challenge, you can ask people to pledge either an amount per mile or a total amount for the whole ride. Based on your ride, people will donate accordingly. Please note, you are not required to have pledges to participate in this event. Most of all, it’s about the satsang!

What is the Crystal Century Challenge?

This year, we will offer three ride options, with the longest being a century – a hundred mile ride – hence the challenge! Very few people may opt for this ride, but a ride of any length can be a challenge! There is no fee for the event and each rider is self supported, meaning there are no SAG wagons and everyone will be responsible for their own transportation and nourishment. All riders will meet at Ananda Village on August 7, the Saturday before Spiritual Renewal Week. The three route options are 25 miles, 60 miles and 100 miles. The 25-mile and 60-mile options require that you drive your car (or car pool) to the starting point 20 miles from Ananda Village at Carlton Campground on Highway 49. See all route descriptions below.

What are the route options?

100-mile ride: from Ananda Village to Bassetts Station (near the Sierra Buttes) and back. 9,000 feet of climbing . 8 – 9 hours. Riders will meet at the Ananda Village Center at 8:15 a.m. and leave at 8:30 a.m. sharp. http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=57065

60-mile ride: This ride begins at Carlton Campground, on Hwy 49 at the North Yuba River (refer to 25-mile ride description for parking details). Ride goes to Bassetts Station and back to Carlton Campground. 60 miles with 4,100 feet of climbing, 5 – 6 hours. Riders will meet at the Village Center at 9:10 a.m. to load bikes and carpool to the starting point at Carlton Campground, leaving the Village at 9:30 a.m. The 20 mile drive will take about 40 minutes. Rendezvous with all riders at the Indian Valley Store, on the left side of Hwy 49 just past the campground. We should all be rolling together about 10:30 a.m. http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=155676

25-mile ride: This ride begins at Carlton Campground, on Hwy 49 at the North Yuba River. Ride goes to Downieville and back. 1300 feet of climbing. 3-4 hours. (including lunch in Downieville). Riders will meet at the Village Center at 9:10 a.m. to load bikes and carpool to the starting point, leaving the Village at 9:30 a.m. The 20 mile drive will take about 40 minutes. (Once you’ve made the 4 mile descent and have crossed the N. Yuba River, use any pull-out on Hwy 49 between the bridge and the Carlton Campground, the first campground after the bridge). Rendezvous at the Indian Valley Store, on the left side of Hwy 49 just past the campground.
