Vegetable Hamburger Recipe

Recipe from Health, Intellectual and Spiritual Recipes: April 1933 - Paramhansa Yogananda

Ingredients:

1 cup lentils
4 cups of water
2 cups onion - finely chopped
2 eggs
2 teaspoons seasoning*
1 teaspoon salt
half teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons cooked beets
(ghee or oil for frying)

Original Instructions:

1 cupful of lentils and 4 cupfuls water. Boil one hour. Then put the cooked lentils through a meat chopper(food processor-today). Add two cupfuls of finely cut onions, two eggs beaten well. two teaspoonfuls of Savita1*, one tea-spoonful salt, one-half teaspoonful pepper, and two tablespoonfuls of cooked beets, mashed with a fork. Make this mixture into small cakes and fry slowly in butter (ghee or oil).
This will serve 6 persons.

*Savita - is a concentrated vegetable extract with all the zestful tang of meat without any of its harmful elements rich in healthful vitamins and easily digestible - India Evening Gazette : March 1928
you may want to try nutritional yeast or your favorite go to seasonings/herbs.
